A Misspent Life

Freud Slip

Ok a quick test to make sure that you guys are awake. Can you see what’s wrong with this picture?

Can You See What Is Wrong

If not then LOL don’t worry. If you can, how long did it take for you to realize what was wrong with it?

Ok, so you are awake now huh? Good.

The weather in Tokyo today is beautiful. Not a cloud in sight. Ladies and gentleman, today is a good day to kill people go to the beach.

However, I am sitting in this shitty office at work with a splitting headache. I tried to login to a website today only to find out I didn’t know my password. I tried using the forgot password feature to retrieve the password only to find out that it sent the password to an email address that I didn’t know the password to either (I have about 6 email accounts) ..

This whole internet thing is all messed up now. It’s like I have got at least 20 passwords now. I am paranoid about using the same password and username combos for multiple sites so I started making up different ones. Now I am in a pickle and have to keep retrieving passwords. When you retrieve it they give you some junk password like “sdklfjs;dlfkj” and then you have to go through the hassle of changing the junk back into something you want.

Being the lazy bastard procrastinator that I am I never actually change the junk password. Meaning 3 months down the line I have to search through 3 months of emails trying to find the forgot password email so that I can copy and paste the junk and login to the site. It is all very annoying.

I am slightly pissed off agitated about a few other things too. The company that I am slaving away for working for doesn’t even give us dual monitor setups (PC with two monitors). The two people in the room with a dual monitor setup are not even doing anything techinical .. Single monitors suck so hard!

On top of that there is some faggot dude on my left who can see my screen. It’s annoying because I can see from the corner of my eye that he periodically looks at my screen. He has sublime timing, he always happens to look when I am using MSN and Facebook not doing any work (90% of the time). I really want to fuck him up move desk.

I just looked at the clock and it is 12PM. At least 5 more hours left until I can go home.

Somebody kill me please.

    Well, I always say a good book should really light my fire! I see this kind of thing every day so I am somewhat over-sensitized.

    As far as passwords go, I have a fairly reliable system for site-specific passwords which are easy to remember in an emergency. Fortunately I use OS X at work, which does a pretty good job of storing passwords in its keychain so I can fish them out if needs be.

    Working at home right now though :)

    Hehe yeah I noticed that you have a ton of those on your site under the “Engrish” category hehe.

    I think my biggest problem is having to use my computer at work and home. So I cant really leave remember me option on incase someone ever used my work computer…

    Working at home must be awesome. But I lack the discpline to do that atm lol.

    Rachel says:

    Haha! That sign is hilarious. What do you need dual monitors for? I always wondered why my code monkey friends have two.

  4. April 23rd, 2009 at 4:07 pm

    Prometheus says:

    @Rachel
    It is to keep myself organized. With two monitors I can keep my games and non-work related stuff on my primary monitor and my work on my secondary monitor.

    With one monitor everything overlaps and I have to keep using Alt-Tab…

    Also with 2 monitors you have an excuse to tilt the screen too an angle that people cant see :D

    Rachel says:

    Oohhhh! I see! I thought it had something to do with coding, they always had loads of screens in The Matrix. Haha!

    Somehow I don’t think your boss would particularly want to encourage you to go on non-work related stuff, but it’s worth a try!

  6. April 23rd, 2009 at 4:25 pm

    Prometheus says:

    @Rachel
    Hehe ok on a serious note, it depends on what you are doing. Like you might want to code on one monitor and see the output or run tests on the secondary monitor. Also you might need to monitor stuff like databases while you work. Having to stop what you are doing to bring up another window is annoying, its much easier to just glance across.

    The second monitor can be used for a list of stuff, like a task list, a spec sheet for what you need to develop etc.

    In short it is mainly for efficiency!!

    I know that there’s no L in Japanese to pronounce it as such, but this is way too funny.

    BTW, is already time for me to go off, so I’m wide awake at the moment. :)

    Haha yeah it is hillarious right. I found it when I went to the airport to get my sister.

    Yeah we are both wide awake now lol, I also just got home from work myself. Otsukaresama :D

    My wonderful employer as a “security measure” makes us change our personnel area password on their Intranet on a regular basis. Hence everytime i need to check a payslip etc i get the dreaded “Wrong Password” message. Then they wont let you reset it to a previous password. After running out I came up with a great solution.

    I now have the password written in a text file on the desktop! Not only that but is is bloody simple. Sometimes you CAN be too secure.

    @Dont Be a Slut
    Back at ya. Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully better jobs to come :D

    @Anna
    Hehehe we are internet exile buddies. Exiled from all our services because of our sin of forgetfulness :(

    @Paul
    Haha oh no Paul. You broke the cardinal sin:

    “Thou shalt not write down thy password” lol.

    But I get what you mean. I might just start doing it for stuff that is not a security threat to me.

  13. April 24th, 2009 at 4:17 pm

    ThePenguin says:

    A text file on the desktop!?

    Amateurs.

    Real men keep their passwords taped to the underside of their keyboard.

  14. April 24th, 2009 at 4:32 pm

    Prometheus says:

    @ThePenguin

    Haha just to clarify, I agreed on writing down passwords. However, I never agreed on keeping them on your desktop hehe.

    And lol at taping it to the underside of your keyboard. Everybody knows that taping it to the underside arm of your chair is best :P

    Haha… very funny post. I keep my passwords in a small book. These days you need to create an account for so many websites, it’s annoying…

    Prometheus says:

    @Nino
    Glad you liked it. Having to create accounts on a daily basis sucks man, I feel ya pain. Keeping the passwords in a small book is cool assuming you dont have to move the book around I guess.

    Cool Ill give it a try. But I am kinda paranoid of using remember password functions…

    Michael Flux says:

    About the passwords, the way I have them organized is along the liens of;

    One basic, word password I have for all the ’stupid crap’ I’m registered at ie forums and such other sites I don’t really care about even if someone does guess it.

    Then another 15ish character password consisting of regular/caps/numbers/misc characters etc which I use for all the stuff where I want more security - ie messengers etc…

    And then for all things that I need very secure ie all banks and such I have randomly generated 16+ character hashes which while I remember, in case I forget are stored in a 256bit encrypted archive which has an even longer password which is stored in a secure location. Just in case. :)

    And then of course all data on all my hard drives is heavily encrypted. I’m not too worried about it when its at home, but when I’m traveling, especially when going though airports, I just want to be sure that if for whatever reason, on whatever bullshit grounds my laptop/harddrives are confiscated, the only thing the confiscators can do with it is **** themselves. ^_^

  21. April 26th, 2009 at 9:12 am

    Prometheus says:

    @Michael Flux

    Woah you be on some next level shizzle :P I think I will probably start encyrpting my hard drive stuff for my laptop. Summer is coming and I wanna be computing from outside instead of my apartment.

    @ourmaninabiko
    Oh you get bonus points for spotting the less obvious mistake :D

    I will give you a book token under one condition. I was actually hoping you would add a cool comment to the weiner caption on your blog from a few weeks back:P
