A Misspent Life

4 Random Questions

Hi there. It has been a while. I have been hitting the gym pretty hard the past few days so I am completley wiped out and too tired to think.. So, instead of posting a normal entry here are 4 random questions for you guys. Feel free to answer any or all of them :P

1)

The weirdest thing happened the other day. I was chilling at my chicks house and half jokingly I am like, “Can you make me some pancakes”. She obliges. I eat the pancakes..

I thought it might just be a Japanese thing so I asked my American boss whether his wife is the same and he answered yes. However, suprisingly he also said that he is the same..

I decided to ask a few more people at work just to make sure that I was not going crazy but they all answered yes as well. This left me in a state of confusion. The funny thing is that they all gave the same answer:

“You are going to put maple syrup on it..”

I dunno, but that might be the most ridiculous thing that I have heard in my life. Like seriously how can you make pancakes and not use sugar? My head is spinning even trying to fathom this.

What about you guys? Are you normal like me and put sugar in your pancake mix? Or are you making sugarless pancakes…? If you are kind enough to answer please let me know what country you are from and your favorite color.

2)

There is a place I go to eat Spanish cuisine for lunch. They have a dish that I really like. I really wanna know the recipe so I can make it at home every day. Has anybody ever asked a restaurant to sell/tell them the recipe of a dish?

If so how did you ask?

How much did you offer?

What sort of answer did you get?

If you own/owned a restaurant would you sell your recipies?

3)

You are on a train and the person next to you is sleeping. The sleeping person starts resting their head on your shoulder.

Do you leave it there and let them sleep on your shoulder?

Do you push their head away?

Do you move forward and make them fall over?

Does your answer change if they are a hot person of the opposite sex?

4)

You have to get a tattoo on your right arm. What do you get done?

Thanks

    Lyndon says:

    1. I’ve made it both ways, but I prefer it without sugar. Because I usually use maple syrup. I’m from Canada, so using maple syrup is a given :)

    2. You can politely ask, sometimes their willing to give it to you. If not, you have to search for the recipe online and experiment with them, until you find one you like.

    3. I try to gentle move it away. Unless they’re a hot female :D

    4. I haven’t the slightest clue. Maybe something geeky, like Pac-Man chasing the ghosts ;)

    Cool thanks for the answers.

    Maple syrup and sugar cant co-exist in your world :S ?

    A pacman tatoo might be pretty tight. Ima google it now and see what comes up lol.

    Also I will keep a running tally of the answer of Q1.

    So far:
    Sugar 0 - 1 No Sugar

    Where my sugar lovers at???

  4. May 7th, 2009 at 2:19 pm

    lina says:

    1. I need sugar in my pancakes even when I know I’m going to slather it with maple syrup afterwards. :D

    I never made a savoury pancake yet… so sugar is a must.

    BTW, I’m from Malaysia and I am obsessed with Green.

    2. Never - I just return to the same place over and over.

    3. I’ll move forward and let them fall over. If a cute guy did that, I just wake him up. LOL

    4. No idea.

  5. May 7th, 2009 at 2:23 pm

    Prometheus says:

    @chloe

    Haha packet pancakes huh. I guess depending on the mix, sugar might already be included. So you are on neither side :P

    Hehe moving forward is the crulest option LOL :p
    I think tats on the right spot look kinda hot on a chick..

    @lina

    w00t w00t. You are in the sugar crew :D so the score is Sugar 1 - 1 No Sugar!!!
    LOL you would move forward and let them fall over too haha. What do you do after you wake the cute guy up?

    summary Sugar 1 - 1 No Sugar

    lina says:

    chat him up lah… I’m no shrinking violet, you know. LOL

  7. May 7th, 2009 at 3:19 pm

    lina says:

    that “lah” word isn’t suppose to be there… it’s a slangy way for us to emphasis (much like yo and ne…) :D

  8. May 7th, 2009 at 3:25 pm

    Prometheus says:

    @lina

    Haha I like that. Like they say, “Fortune favors the brave!!”

  9. May 7th, 2009 at 5:02 pm

    Nino says:

    1 Sugar or/and jam or/and marmelade, never maple syrup in Slovenia. It can also be some chocolate spread on your pancake or some even put hazelnuts and strawberries.

    2 I think the restaurant would fear you will use or sell their recipy to some other restaurant. Would you sell yours if it’s your own and you make a living out of it?

    3 This can only happen with a guy! So the answer is move forward slowly, let them fall over, in the process they will hopefully wake up. Of course if ot’s a sexy girl, cress her hair, make her comfortable :P (Kidding)

    4 You HAVE to get a tattoo?
    I’d probably have this 辣妹 :P

  10. May 7th, 2009 at 5:28 pm

    Prometheus says:

    @Nino
    Hi, just to clarify. Do you put sugar in the actual pancake mix (before frying it) ?

    If I owned a famous restaurant I wouldnt sell. If I owned a small shitty one I would :P

    Rofl you people are cold. You all move forward and make the person fall…

    And shame on you for what you would do to the sexy girl :P

    What does that Kanji mean? It is chinese right?

    john turningpin says:

    I’ve blogged about No. 3 before. I call them The Leaners. And I’ve pushed one sleep-twitching bugger the heck off of me before. He was a tad bit surprised.

  12. May 7th, 2009 at 9:10 pm

    Nino says:

    I put the sugar in the mix before, yes.

    So, you’re saying that Spanish restaurant is shitty? :)

    Google the kanji, you’ll get ur answer :P

  13. May 7th, 2009 at 11:07 pm

    Tokyo Grindhouse CEO says:

    1: Both! Sugar and Maple Syrup. (Sugar in the mix, NOT on top! Yuk!) I like my pancakes with fresh strawberries… I’m from London (UK) and I like Blue.

    2: Find out the name of the dish in the menu, check out the recipe online! Duh!

    3: Pick-pocket them! Lol! Nah, I’m kidding ya! I’d politely ask them to move… with my ELBOW of course!

    4: If you ‘HAD’ to have one, that eliminates the choice factor right…!?

    I’m interested in getting tattooed, but I would create the design myself…Something I’m likely not to regret 20 years from now. NO KANJI that says ‘YAKISOBA’, when the guy who wrote it told me it said ‘Gangster’ either!

    Tornadoes28 says:

    If the person sleeping on my shoulder is a cute girl. Anybody else gets a shoulder shove.

  15. May 8th, 2009 at 12:08 am

    Rachel says:

    1. I make pancakes with flour, egg and milk. But I do have mine with sugar sprinkled on afterwards and a squeeze of lemon juice! Maple syrup is for weirdos. Mmm, hungry.

    2. I always order steak or fish and chips, so no recipe needed, haha!

    3. I usually just shrug really fast until they wake up thinking there’s an earthquake.

    4. HAVE to?

  16. May 8th, 2009 at 5:34 am

    Lyndon says:

    Sugar and Maple Syrup could co-exist in my world. But I find that I drown my pancakes in so much maple syrup, I wouldn’t really notice if it didn’t have sugar in them :)

  17. May 8th, 2009 at 9:36 am

    Lilly says:

    1. Both although we probably shouldnt be putting sugar in it if you have maple syrup its true. i like sugar and lemon juice on top of pancakes.
    2. Depends on the place as to whether I would ask for the recipe. I never have mind you as they are too busy to do stuff like that. I would google it.
    3. No this has happened to me many times on planes (must have a cuddly look about me)and I manage to wake them up by nudging them. Hate it - invasion of personal space no matter how cute they happen to be.
    4. Don’t like tattoos at all - its a bit like platic surgery. Once people start they cannot stop. Look at David Beckham - he looks stupid.

  18. May 8th, 2009 at 9:41 am

    Prometheus says:

    @john turningpin
    lol at leaners. I guess politely waking them up is not the norm :P

    @Nino
    Good you put it in the mix! I googled 辣妹 but got weird results… posh spice even came up LOL

    @Tokyo Grindhouse CEO
    w00t w00t more normal people who put sugar in the mix.

    The problem is the dish has a generic name. Tomatoe chicken or something lol. I didnt even try googling it…

    I feel you on a tatoo you wont regret. But trying to find one is kinda hard. since something relevant now might eventually become irrelevant..

    @Tornadoes28
    hehe. shoulder shove huh. I guess it is less violent than an elbow shove..

    @Rachel
    lol at maple syrup for weirdos.. but if im honest im pretty sure when I was younger i never ate pancakes with maple either… A UK thing perhaps?
    I have never thought of sprinkling sugar on top though…

    You shrug really fast huh? Why not just let the poor bugger sleep on you ?

    “HAVE to?” is what you would tatoo on?

    @Lyndon
    Hmm that would be maple syrup overkill for me…

  19. May 8th, 2009 at 9:52 am

    Prometheus says:

    @Lily
    You like your pancakes exactly the same way that Rachel does. Interesting since I have never heard of sprinkling sugar on top of pancakes…

    I can’t really google it because the name is way too generic (tomatoe chicken).

    Awesome, I think so far you are the only person who would shove a cute person of the opposite sex away hehe. I used to be kind of funny about people entering my personal space. But once you get on a train in Japan you get used to it…

    I agree with you that beckham has overdone it…

  20. May 8th, 2009 at 1:14 pm

    Joyless Prole says:

    My mind is warped. I had no idea some people did put sugar in them. Not that I ever make them but now I not be able to decide what to do if I ever do. Good thing I love french toast, I guess.

  21. May 8th, 2009 at 11:07 pm

    Kent says:

    Hey, Prom: Thanks for following my blog. I am now one of yours, too.
    Only had answers to the last two questions pop into my head. Heads on the shoulders is a very Japanese thing. They just let it happen. I saw it all the time. It’s part of life there. Just let it.
    Get a kanji tattoo, by all means. It will mark you, as your heart has already done by your time in Nippon. Maybe get the one for older brother (o-nii-san) if you are one.
    I saw your ID photo. You are a far more than a gaijin, my dear friend. From there you have TONS to write. Neh?

    Hey, like the new header thingy. Can Our Man claim credit for the Tokyo/London clocks thing?

    Prometheus says:

    @Joyless Prole
    When you finally make the switch dont join the darkside, USE SUGAR!!

    @Kent
    Yeah I noticed that they dont even do anything most of the time lol. Most people who left a comment spoke of doing violent things to the leaner.

    A kanji seems cool. I am a “Big Brother” :P

    @ourmaninabiko
    hahah. I was wondering where that momemnt of creativity came from. I must have subconciously seen it on your site and thought I was having a moment of genius lol

    Please claim credit for it ;)

    Michael Flux says:

    1) I just get my pancakes at a restaurant, so who knows what they make them there with. Forgot the last time I made pancakes. But hey, as long as there’s maple syrup, does it really matter what they’ve been made with?

    2) Nope, why would I ask for a recipe if I can find it online? Google ftw!

    3) Might as well just fall asleep also, nothing better to do.

    4) Why right arm? If I ever got a tattoo, it would be full body.

  25. May 9th, 2009 at 10:32 pm

    billywest says:

    1. Back home, I used to put sugar and vanilla in the mix. Here, nope.

    2. I’ve heard they’re pretty protective of that stuff here.

    3. First time: Soft elbow to the ribs. Second time: Hell, there’s never been a second time ;)

    4. Just get something that’ll look good if you get fat or when you get old.

  26. May 10th, 2009 at 12:39 pm

    Jamaipanese says:

    1) I hate pancakes -_-

    2) Never asked but might one day

    3) I’d prolly wake then, but opposite sex doesn’t always necessarily mean attractive :D. Then again it depends on my mood.

    4) Tribal Art!

    Girl Interrupted says:

    Hey Prometheus :) sorry it’s taken me so long to come visit … really like your blog

    1) I’m from the UK, traditionally we don’t use sugar in the actual pancake mix, but once cooked we eat them with lots of sugar and fresh lemon juice … and now I want pancakes!

    2) I’ve never asked, but it couldn’t hurt to try … the worst they can do is say no

    3) I would gently try to move their head away … unless it was a hot guy, then he could sleep there all day, and I’d probably try to write my phone no. on his forehead

    4) I’d really like a plain, black Celtic symbol, nothing too big … but I don’t know where to put it, I want it somewhere cool and not in the usual places

  28. May 11th, 2009 at 11:16 am

    Prometheus says:

    @Michael Flux
    Full body tats huh ? Somebody has been watching prison break :P

    @billywest
    Why did u stop when you got to Japan? and LOL at elbow to the ribs haha. Thats classic

    @Jamaipanese
    How would you wake them up?

    Hmm tribal art tatoo? Have you seenn full metal alchemist? I would love to get scars tatto on my arm lol

    @Girl Interrupted
    Hi, thanks for dropping by :D

    Im from the UK and never heard about the sugar and lemon thing :(

    Writing your number on the forehead is very resouceful. Me like it.

    How about the Celtic Symbol on your forehead?

    Renee Khan says:

    Love the questions.

    1. Definitely maple syrup. From the land of real maple syrup — Canada.

    3. I would move forward to let it fall off. If person was dirty, I would get up and move. If the person was clean and elderly or hot I would let them snuggle in.

    Renee xoxoxo

  30. May 13th, 2009 at 9:37 am

    Prometheus says:

    @Renee Khan
    Canada has the best maple syrup? Could you tell me the brand you use and I will check if any of the import stores have it.

    And bless you, letting a normal clean person snuggle. That sounds so heart warming :)

  31. May 13th, 2009 at 11:18 am

    Renee Khan says:

    Any real maple syrup from Canada would work great.

    It is really expensive even here (as in about 12 doll hairs for a small bottle) but it would come from Quebec.

    It is worth every bite. It has to be real though, not artificial.

    @Renee Khan
    Thanks. I just did some more research on what you said and realised that there is actually “Real” and “Imitation” maple syrup. Pretty shocking lol. Thanks for educating me :P

    lina lina says:

    1)butter & maple syrup, but usually i dont like pancakes
    2)never asked
    3)walk away, no change of answer even if that person’s hot
    4)still can’t decide so i still never have it XD

  34. May 18th, 2009 at 9:12 am

    Prometheus says:

    @lina lina

    Hmm I never really got the point of the butter with pancakes. I normally just dont use it when I buy mcds pancakes.

    Walking away from a hot person :o ? Any reason why? hehe

    We are i nthe same boat. I can’t really think of anything good either…
