The Reflection is a Lie
If you are a gamer or internet geek you might be aware of the phrase “The Cake is a Lie”. If not, then never mind. Today I bring to you a new truth, “The reflection is a lie!”
I would like to quickly share a weird/dumb thing that I think about sometimes. I remembered it after I got home from the gym yesterday.

So I was at the gym, and if you have spent any time in a gym you know that there are big mirrors everywhere. I walked up to the mirror and started doing some muscle man poses. It felt pretty good. I looked at my reflection and thought to myself, “Yup, I am a few steps away from reaching incredible hulk status”.
I went home later that day and did the same pose in front of the mirror in my house.
Hmm, not quite the same effect. I looked skinnier than a 9 year old school girl…
I bought a few pair of jeans last week. If you are in Japan then no doubt you would have heard of a 24 hour shop called JeansMate. I am pretty sure the mirrors there made me look a bit slimmer and taller. But that’s what clothes shops do right? They have those mirrors to try to make you look better in the clothes and trick you into buying them.
I then went to a bathroom, looked at the mirror and felt sad because my eyes were not parallel. It looked like the left one was 2 or 3cm below the right @_@
It kinda makes me wonder what % of mirrors in the world can actually give you a 100% true representation of what you look like. Or are all the mirrors the same and it’s just the angles and lights? Any mirror experts in the house?
Anyway moving on swiftly!!
So over the next few months I might be doing a bit of travelling. I am planning a super last minute trip to Thailand for a few days around the 18th of next month. I probably will end up going. But it won’t be decided till literally the last minute. I am also planning a trip to Okinawa to a friend’s wedding in September and a trip back home in December.

I have never actually been to a wedding before. Apparently in Japan you have to pay about 30,000 yen (300usd) as a wedding gift if you attend.
At first I was pretty excited about going. People always say that Okinawa is like Hawaii. But after doing some math and adding up money for the plane ticket, wedding money, hotel money, food money, spending money and money for a pimp suit and pimp hat for the ceremony I am starting to worry about how much of a dent this 4-5 day trip is going put on my wallet. The dude is a cool guy and everything, but I might I just have to plead ignorance and not pay any wedding money LOL.
Or I can just be responsible, not go and save myself a ton of money…. But I really wanna go …:(
Sigh, decisions, decisions @_@
Anybody been to Thailand or Okinawa before? Summer is coming yo. Where is everybody going? Or are people calling off their holidays because of the credit crunchers?

I’ll give you a hint on your last question: I heard many people been to Thailand and Okinawa. In fact, there’s even some people living there. LOL. Just kidding
Well, you have some deep thoughts there about reflections. Well, why mirrir reflections are a lie is because they flip the image horizontally. If you have a mole on your right side, it’ll be on the left in the mirror. I guess these reflections are good in a way, because they make more aware of your face and body. (That was deep :P)

@Nino
Haha sarcy sarcy lol
June 22nd, 2009 at 7:22 pm
I had to go to Urban dictionary to understand what you were saying
Sarcy: The correct abbreviation of sarcastic. SARCasm becomes SARCy.
Person 1: ‘Funtastic’
Person 2: ‘No it isnt’
Person 1: ‘I was being sarcy’
Is it what you meant?

hey, btw nice bowling the other day lol. I suck at it too.
Did you know that on a lot of professional model shots, they will often mirror half their face so that its symmetrical?
My good friend was in thailand (stationed with the US Marines). He loved it there.
The only thing I know bout Okinawa is that’s Mr Miyage’s hometown!

You can look a lot different right after a workout, especially doing weights. I always look like hercules after a couple minutes of pumping iron but it wears off quickly if you aren’t doing really high reps.
June 22nd, 2009 at 9:37 pm
I’ve only heard amazing things about Okinawa! Hope you go!
June 22nd, 2009 at 10:32 pm
@Nino
hehe yeah sarcy means sarcasm !
@Mr C
I didnt know that about models. Pretty funny. Ill try to concentrate hard next time i see a model pic and see if it is too perfectly symmetrical lol. ANd yeah Mr Miyagi is tha man
@John Smith
Oh snap, hehe I guess thats what my friend meant a few years when he used to talk about ppl taking roids to keep that pumped up form. Funnily enough, I looked super big before even doing anything yesterday …
@Kristine
Thanks. Ill try to make it happen !

I’m going China in August. Really looking forward to it! I just hope the H1N1 flu don’t interrupt my plans! : )
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:07 am
Hahah, thanks for the pimping! <3
The worst mirrors are the ones that are downlit. God. If I actually looked like that I’d stab myself in the face.
Wow on the travelling. You are going to have an awesome time.

@foongpc
I wanna go to china to learn some Shaolin Kungfu in the mountains
Hope your trip doesnt get cancelled!
@Rachel
haha im a natural pimp. I think the mirrors I hate the most are the ones that magnify anything on your face and makes your skin look awful lol.
Hopefully I can pull it all together with the holidays!

Go to the wedding and take a gift and tell him that where you are from you give what you can afford…. $300 is high as a mandatory gift…. but if you want to fit in then give him the money and have a great time. if the beach look like the pic i am goin to be really jealous.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:30 am
@Anjel
Yeah Ill just give a gift. It is one thing if it was local but gonna cost a lot to get there and stuff that 300 can go a long way towards other things lol
June 23rd, 2009 at 9:21 am
I say go to the wedding for sure. Don’t miss it. Instead of giving money try to find a really nice gift (something totally different) that is still affordable. They will never know what you spent on it.
Love Renee xoxo

@Renee Khan
Yah I will defo just buy a present. Do you have any ideas
June 23rd, 2009 at 12:01 pm
I’d love to go to Okinawa someday.
I second on the gift buying instead of giving cash.
The credit crunch made us postponed our Japan holiday this year, but hopefully we still can make it by the end of the year!
June 23rd, 2009 at 12:31 pm
@lina
Oh nice you have a trip to Japan planned? Awesome. Hope it goes through. Where in Japan will you go?
June 24th, 2009 at 8:04 am
Is there an option to just go to the reception (which could be cheaper)?
June 24th, 2009 at 9:21 am
@sixmats
I am not really sure. I will find out though. The wedding starts at 16:30 which sounds pretty late…
June 24th, 2009 at 10:08 am
I’m from Hawaii and have been to Okinawa 2x.
No comparison. Okinawa is like Hawaii’s ugly little brother with a racist attitude. Hawaii FTW, So long as you don’t get trapped in Waikiki via a group tour.
F___, payin’ 3man for a “cool guy”.
But get the pimp suit anyway.
June 24th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
@Chris B
LOL LOL. Yeah Ill defo go hawaii next year or something so I can see the difference. And yeah fuck 3man for a cool guy LOL
June 25th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Just got back from 3 weeks in Thailand
(though it was not all vacation unfortunately). I would be travelling more often if I had the time.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
@ThePenguin
Details about the trip?? Write a post about it
June 26th, 2009 at 9:21 am
My mirrors at home are much friendlier than those in the gym. But maybe it’s because I’m sweating like a pig in the gym. Yes, I’m super classy, why do you ask?
300usd!!!!! NO WAY! Not in a million years. Give a nice gift. Something that represents good luck and fertility.
June 26th, 2009 at 10:23 am
@Dutch Donut Girl
LOL yeah we are all sweaty in the gym. Do you wear make up at the gym? Some women do in Japan…
Any gift ideas?
June 28th, 2009 at 8:07 am
no overseas traveling for me but lots of trips to local beaches.
Good question about mirrors!
June 28th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
@Jamaipanese
Take some pics of the chicks at the beach
June 29th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Simple … go to Okinawa … just don’t go to the wedding
It’s the cheeky but cheap solution
Some mirrors are our friends, they should be placed in prominent places and polished 3 times a day … other mirrors are NOT our friends and should be covered in yards of thick, black material and placed in the deepest, darkest cupboards … or just smashed into billions of pieces with a sledgehammer, whichever you prefer.
Ps: I gave you an award on my second to last post
June 29th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
@Girl Interrupted
Hehehe the hotel we are staying it is where the wedding is being held. Would be funny if I dont go but bump into him into the hallways lol..
I think I prefer the sledgehammer. There are so many mean mirrors
And wow thanks for the reward. I have been so busy that I havent even had a chance to update or do my rounds much. Ima come check it out!!

Prometheus:
Depending on the couple of course, but a vase or even a frame (for a wedding picture) both are nice depending on the couple. The idea is not to buy a toaster or something like that but to buy something beautiful that let say the couple would not spend that much on especially for themselves.
I still have a beautiful vase I got for a wedding gift and I still love it almost 35 years ago.
Thank you for your comment on inflammatory breast cancer. I totally appreciate that you said I did do what I needed to do.
Love Renee xoxoxo

A wedding gift box? With a little present for the bride and groom: candy, tablewares or a pair of teacups of the same design, one large and one small etc. And you can bring about 5,000 or 7,000 yen so they can’t label you as the odd duck in the pond.
And yes, I’m one of those girl who put eyeliner and mascara on while I work out. But they stand heat, sweat and tears
July 4th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
@Renee Khan
Thanks for that. Hopefully I can find something cool that they will keep for a long time like you did your vase.
And yeah, you did what you needed to do
@ Dutch Donut Girl
haah cool there is excercise proof make up now lol? Times are crazy..
I have never even heard of a wedding box before.. lol thanks for the tip
