A Misspent Life

Around the hood Part 2

Omg been so long. But I am back and armed with D70 ;p. Quite a lot has happened but ill go over that another time. I bought the camera 2 days ago and just went out on my first shooting mission. Unfortunately because of the lens I bought (50mm 1.8d) and cause I am a noob, I couldnt really take shots of building or big things :(. Ill prolly get a new lens sometime this month that has zoom or something. This is a sequel to Around the hood which was inspired by Michael Flux.

Anyway just remember that I am a noob and dont know how to use this camera :P I also probably need to redesign this blog. Shrinking photos make me sad :(

But anyway, without further ado.

front2

I thought I would start off with the same picture I used in Around the hood part 1 ;P. It is the path at the front of my house.

path

After realizing that it is impossible to take any sort of decent picture of my building because of my lens I decided to walk down this path to the main road.

fire

I got to the main road then all of a sudden heard sirens. I looked around and it was a Japanese fire brigade. Heavy duty vehicle ;p

attractions

I decided to head to the market area. I was suprised to see this sign post… Seems like there’s is quite a lot of attractions in my hood ..

olddude

I decided to go to the shopping market to take some snaps. To get there you have to cross the train tracks. I saw this cool old man posing on his bike

train

And here is the token train picture… lol

path2park

The shopping market was closed (like 8am) and I couldn’t take a shot to save my life, so I decided to follow the path to the park.

parkent

And here is the entrance of Hikarigaoka park..

shopping

I walked around the park for a while until I realised no zoom = gg for park photos lol.. I decided to hit the back roads. On the way there I passed this busy supermarket.

house

So at the back roads was this cool looking house with nice trees.

cabbage

There are a lot of people growing vegetables in my area. I ran up on one of the cabbage patches and decided to take a snap. I then waited till nobody was looking, grabbed a cabbage and put it in my pocket.

alley

I kinda liked this shot. Not because it looks good, but what is in it. You have some retro yellow scooter, a basketball stand, a metal house and people hanging their laundry at their front door…

tractor

Some people have Ferraris parked outside of their house, not this guy…

cleaner

As I got back to my apartment I saw a cleaner and decided to quickly get a shot.

So anyway, that is it for today. I will probably try to get a zoom lens so I can take a wider variety of shots. But for the time being my mission is to learn how to use this camera on manual. So, until next time ;)

    The pictures look great!!

Personally, I prefer to use a 50mm lens. It let’s you walk around and shot anything you want, including people.
Because they generally don’t seem to mind the smaller lens.

Thanks, what camera do you have? I probably need to learn more about lenses. If u have a 50mm how do you take big buildings and stuff?

Great pictures, your neighbourhood looks so nice too! I love the hedges on your path, so cute!

Haha..I thought the cool old guy on the bike had a lollipop in his mouth! Thought, wow! This guy is real gangsta minus the bling.

The 3rd to last picture, if folks did that in UK, they’re probably Waynes and Waynettas! Haha..

    awesome!

You’re gonna love that camera. Unfortunately you probably will need to get a different lens for pictures of buildings and landscapes. Get the nikkor 18mm-50mm zoom lens.

You should also really look into how to use ISO, Shutter, and Aperture; you will be able to take some incredible pictures!

Nice shots. I had my first DSLR in my hands, when I met my girlfriend in Taiwan. And I was totally lost at first. But after a while, I really started to love it and now I’m taking some pretty decent photos. Your neighborhood looks like it’s only for old people, haha. Like a village for old folks. You must feel like a little boy among those 100+ Japanese :P

Mr C is right, if you want to take pictures of buildings & landscapes your going to need something different than the 50mm. Best bet, is to do some research online, try out a few different lens (if you can find a place to rent from) & buy the best one you can afford)

I have a Nikon D40 with a 50mm when I want to take a quick snap. Looking to get something different, just haven’t decided yet :) Might get a Canon, since I can borrow lens from my friends.
