A Misspent Life

Happy New Year!

I know, I know it is 2 weeks late. But nonetheless, Happy New Year peoples.

I got back from the UK like 2 weeks ago and have been dead since I got back. The first day I got back to London some friends came around and were chilling at my house till 5am. That was more or less the pattern of my trip. I might have gone to bed before midnight like twice in nearly 3 weeks (I normally go to sleep at 9-10pm in Japan…). My sleeping pattern went like this. I would get to sleep at 3-5am get 2-4 hours sleep and wake up anytime between 6-9am in the morning. I would then try to steal like 2-3 of hours sleep in the evening or mid afternoon if the opportunity presented itself. But since I was having such a good time I was able to shrug it off and somehow survive.

Thanks to that when I got back to Japan I didn’t actually have any Jetlag (can’t have jetlag if you don’t actually sleep right..).

Unfortunately I didn’t take many pictures. In fact most of the snaps that got taken were on other peoples cameras, so it going be a task to collect them all…

I didn’t really experience any so called reverse culture shock (first time back in nearly 3 years) I guess it is because nothing has really changed. I was however shocked with how cold it was. Your mind remembers the UK is cold, but your body forgets how cold it actually was. I caught a cold the first time I left the house :(

Anyway happy New Year once again guys. I will defo be updating at least once a week. Got a lot of plans for 2010. Hope everyone has a good year and gets everything they want.

I’ll leave you with a couple of photos that I did take.

Driveway

This is the view from my driveway on the 2nd - 3rd day after I got back. It snowed for nearly a week…

Acceptance

I have been using the internet on a very active basis for a good 10+ years now. I am ancient around here. Part of the furniture as some might say. I think I made my entrance back in the 14k days. You know, those 14k modems that used to make that super irritating weird screeching sound for a few seconds every time you tried to connect to the internet (notice the use of the word tried).

I remember back then I used to use MSN and ICQ (messaging clients).

You should have seen the facial expressions of some of the people I knew back then when I told them I am talking to my online friend on msn, or meeting up with someone I played video games with online (Duke Nukem 3D, Quake etc) in real life to chill with. It was kind of to the tone of “Mothefucker is you crazy?”

Back in the day telling your friends that you got a new chick and her name is bighooters87 would have got you laughed at and labeled a looser.(yes I know there is one o too many. but that how you spell it on the interwebs).

But now, 10 years later or so the world has done a complete 360. Everybody is signed up to facebook with their real name and posting their whole life’s up on there. Online communities are doing offline meets on a regular basis, hot chicks are using internet dating services, heck even myspace turned into a dating site lol. Well I guess it started off as a facebook, (it actually came before facebook), turned into a dating site, and now is some sort of musicians haven.

I know a few retards with myspace pages that read “The official Myspace page of [Insert name even though I am not famous, I am a nobody and no one is going to try and make a fake page of me...]. Ok my bad, stay on topic Prometheus.

While I am not the maker of the internet or anything like that, as a long time user, it kinda puts a smug smile on my face to sit back and reminisce how things once were and how they are now.

Makes me wondered what is deemed unacceptable or frowned upon today, but will become the norm or the ‘cool’ thing in the next 5/10/20 years.

Any ideas?

But yeah, just a random thought I had on the way to work.

Misspent Life is now officially back open for business.

I will be in London from the Dec 15th - Jan 3rd. Should have a lot to ramble about.

Hope everybody is doing well.

Peace

The Reflection is a Lie

If you are a gamer or internet geek you might be aware of the phrase “The Cake is a Lie”. If not, then never mind. Today I bring to you a new truth, “The reflection is a lie!”

I would like to quickly share a weird/dumb thing that I think about sometimes. I remembered it after I got home from the gym yesterday.

mirror

So I was at the gym, and if you have spent any time in a gym you know that there are big mirrors everywhere. I walked up to the mirror and started doing some muscle man poses. It felt pretty good. I looked at my reflection and thought to myself, “Yup, I am a few steps away from reaching incredible hulk status”.

I went home later that day and did the same pose in front of the mirror in my house.

Hmm, not quite the same effect. I looked skinnier than a 9 year old school girl…

I bought a few pair of jeans last week. If you are in Japan then no doubt you would have heard of a 24 hour shop called JeansMate. I am pretty sure the mirrors there made me look a bit slimmer and taller. But that’s what clothes shops do right? They have those mirrors to try to make you look better in the clothes and trick you into buying them.

I then went to a bathroom, looked at the mirror and felt sad because my eyes were not parallel. It looked like the left one was 2 or 3cm below the right @_@

It kinda makes me wonder what % of mirrors in the world can actually give you a 100% true representation of what you look like. Or are all the mirrors the same and it’s just the angles and lights? Any mirror experts in the house?

Anyway moving on swiftly!!

So over the next few months I might be doing a bit of travelling. I am planning a super last minute trip to Thailand for a few days around the 18th of next month. I probably will end up going. But it won’t be decided till literally the last minute. I am also planning a trip to Okinawa to a friend’s wedding in September and a trip back home in December.

okinawa

I have never actually been to a wedding before. Apparently in Japan you have to pay about 30,000 yen (300usd) as a wedding gift if you attend.

At first I was pretty excited about going. People always say that Okinawa is like Hawaii. But after doing some math and adding up money for the plane ticket, wedding money, hotel money, food money, spending money and money for a pimp suit and pimp hat for the ceremony I am starting to worry about how much of a dent this 4-5 day trip is going put on my wallet. The dude is a cool guy and everything, but I might I just have to plead ignorance and not pay any wedding money LOL.

Or I can just be responsible, not go and save myself a ton of money…. But I really wanna go …:(

Sigh, decisions, decisions @_@

Anybody been to Thailand or Okinawa before? Summer is coming yo. Where is everybody going? Or are people calling off their holidays because of the credit crunchers?

When the music stops

It has most definitely stopped. There is no doubt about it. I feel like I am walking underwater. The adrenaline rush that kept my sleep deprived body going for the past 3 days has disappeared along with my friends who are probably boarding the plane as I type this.

It was an awesome 3 days. It is up there with one of the best ever. I could not really ask for a better birthday bonanza. But as Soul II Soul sang it is “Back to life, back to reality”.

It is going to be a long week. I can feel it. I have looked at the clock 5 times already but unfortunately it is still only 10:07.

I am too tired and brain dead to think of anything interesting to write today. So instead of leaving you with a thousand words. I will leave you with one picture :)

Edit:

Had to take the photo down :( Will post a different one when I get home.
